Failure of the check valve to work leads there will be backflow of the already pumped water into the discharge line and this will lead to your pump working too hard. This failure and the results will lead to great loses in that there is a probability of burning up the engine of your pipe or flooding and this requires replacement of a check valve. And faster troubleshooting of the sump pump check valve is the right choice to make but what kind of sump pump check valve do you want. So how do you replace the sump pump check? This is the question most of you end up with since you see replacing it being a lot of work.
Steps On How To Replace Sump Pump Check Valve
The following are the steps to successfully and easily replace sump pump check valve:
Safety and preparation
Before you begin the replacement you should ensure that the sump pump system should finish its cycle and all water in the sump pump is drained. Then you can go on to disconnecting the power supply system to the sump pump. For safety measures ensure that while disconnecting the discharge pipe ensure nothing of value is anywhere near since when removing the old check valve some water may spill.
Removal of the old check valve or also the failed check valve
Removal of the check valve depends on the type of the check valve you dealing with. Removing the check valve you need PVC cutters to cut on both ends above and below in order to make loose the hose clamps sides (top and bottom).
Installing the new valve
While cutting the PVC discharge pipe you should ensure the space cut is not larger than the one you replacing with. But if it happens that the space is larger then you can go a step ahead of removing more of the discharge line in order to keep the discharge pipe with the replacement check valve in line. And also you can add PVC coupling that is in line with the length of PVC that will guarantee proper fitting. The reason for doing this is because the replacement check valve should be able to hold onto the PVC discharge pipe together with the hose clamps at the top and bottom.
In the process of installing the check valve, marking the direction of water valve at the check valve is important. Then do the installation of the replacement valve ensuring that the arrow is pointing the drain line and it is away from the sump pump.
Bracing the discharge pipe
to avoid the discharge pipe from pulling apart at the replaced check valve then it should be supported properly.
